Thursday 24 September – at sea
Weather 2/8 cloud, easterly force 4, 23.5°C
Up for late breakfast and then to the solo meet for
coffee. It was now beautiful weather so a spot of sunbathing on deck beckoned
while Caryll went to play quoits. It was the Peninsular Club Baltic &
Ligurian level lunch today so we went in to change about 11.30. We had a nice
table for 8, hosted by the Security Officer, Martin W. Interestingly the Captain didn't attend! After five courses, accompanied
by champagne and free-flowing wine (our wine waiter from dinner was serving our
table!) there was nothing for it but a return to the promenade deck and the sun
to sleep off lunch. Rather annoyingly though I kept being woken up by two of our table companions walking circuits! I went in for the individual quiz at 5.15 where I scored
16/20 – not enough to win though! Then it was time to shower and change for our
second formal night. Our team came second in the syndicate quiz. Bed.
Friday 25 September – at sea
Weather3/8 cloud, north westerly Force 4, 22°C
Our last sea day before five ports in a row so made
the most of the rest! It was the Macmillan coffee morning in the upper level of
the Meridian Restaurant so went for coffee and cupcake. I bid up to £25 for a Britannia
Maiden Voyage cup and saucer but lost it in the end. The cruise chart went for about
£150.
Asked if the Hotel General Manager would like to join us for dinner one evening (she made a note and promised to come
but never made it in the end!). Other than that I sat on deck in the sun all
day, either on Deck 10, around the stern pool or on the prom. Deck, watching
for wildlife etc. I was interested to spot a warship on patrol – for illegal
immigrants/refugees?? After the individual quiz we got ready for dinner and a
semi-formal night.
